Connections
How do I connect for the first time?
Start with our setup guide. Open PadCanvas on both devices, choose USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and approve the named device on the Mac. Keep the companion app in the foreground while drawing.
Wi-Fi won’t connect.
Put both devices on the same trusted local network. Copy a fresh connection link from the Mac into the companion’s Connections panel, select Wi-Fi only, and connect. Allow Local Network access if your device asks.
Guest and workplace networks can prevent devices from reaching each other. VPN routing may also interfere. A link from an earlier Mac session may have expired.
Which connection is actually being used?
Read the active channel beside the connected device in Connections. Automatic prefers USB, then Wi-Fi; selecting it does not mean USB is active. Use Wi-Fi only or USB only when you want to test a specific channel.
Can a browser join alongside an iPad?
Yes. Open a fresh browser invitation from the Mac, enter a display name and approve that request on the Mac. Each controller has its own connection. Browser support initially targets Chrome and Edge on the same local network; allow local-network access when prompted.
Why does the browser open a website?
The HTTPS website supplies the drawing interface and the browser’s encryption tools. The interface then connects directly to your Mac’s local address. It is not an internet screen-sharing relay. The Mac’s own local canvas can use localhost because it runs on that same Mac.
A removed device can’t reconnect.
Removal revokes that device’s access. Request access again from the controller and approve the new request on the Mac. If its link is stale, use a fresh invitation. Reopening the companion after backgrounding it is different from being approved again after removal.
Screen & preview
I’m connected, but my drawing doesn’t appear.
Check the selected display, choose Show overlay, and check account access on the Mac. Approve any waiting device request. If you have zoomed into the canvas, use Fit. Keep the phone or tablet app open.
Live view stays on “Starting”.
First check that drawing works over USB or Wi-Fi. Turn on Live screen preview and read the Mac’s capture status. Allow PadCanvas in macOS Screen Recording settings. If macOS requests a restart, save your drawing before quitting and reopening. Bluetooth does not carry live preview. Contact support if capture still fails with permission enabled.
Will people see my annotations in Google Meet?
Share the entire display you selected in PadCanvas. Sharing only a browser tab or one window may leave out the overlay. Before presenting, make a test mark and ask another participant whether they can see it.
What does Clear remove?
Clear removes the drawing overlay, including added images. Use Undo if you cleared by mistake. Saving a project before a presentation lets you return to it later.
Account & billing
Where do I sign in or manage my subscription?
Open Account in the Mac app. Sign in with the Google account that owns your access, then use Manage billing to open Stripe’s hosted billing page. You can update payment details or cancel there, including during a trial.
How do the trial and renewal work?
The current plan offers eligible new accounts seven days free with a payment method, then £4.99 per year until cancelled. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid the first charge. The checkout page confirms the amount and dates before you agree. Valid lifetime licenses and earlier one-time purchases remain valid.
I paid, but the Mac is still locked.
Check that you are signed into the account used for checkout. Refresh account access in the Mac app with an internet connection. If access still does not update, email support with your account email and receipt reference. Do not send card details.
Can I use my license offline?
Yes. Mac version 0.9.15 and later allows up to two hours of offline drawing after a successful online access check, including with a lifetime license. The window ends sooner if your trial or paid access expires. Reopening the app does not restart the countdown. Reconnect to the internet to refresh access; signing out or receiving a revoked-access response ends access immediately. Drawing content still travels directly between your devices. A browser needs internet to load its interface initially.
How do I request a refund or delete my account?
Email i.sowunmi97+padcanvas@gmail.com from your account email and describe the request. We verify account ownership before making changes. Deletion and refund requests need manual handling; neither automatically cancels a subscription. Use Manage billing on the Mac to stop future renewal, or ask support for help.
